Foundation

What is Foundation?

Several years ago, we made a few adjustments to what we used to call Confirmation. One significant change was renaming it to Foundation. We found the name Confirmation to be somewhat limiting and confusing. Instead, we want to call this discipleship journey what it truly is: a time to build and strengthen the foundation of faith.

Foundation is a yearlong discipleship journey for 7th and 8th-grade students, providing them with a comprehensive survey of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. During this time, students will also have the opportunity to get to know our pastors on a more personal level. Our primary hope for Foundation is that your son or daughter will grow in their faith and devotion to Jesus Christ.

Foundation Dates

Foundation meets six times throughout the school year on Saturdays from 9:30 AM to noon:

  • October 19, November 30, January 11, February 22, March 29, May 10

  • Foundation Sunday will be on May 18, 2025

Foundation Sunday

The Foundation class culminates with a ceremony in May, celebrating the students' accomplishments. In the spring, we create a short video where students reflect on a few questions about their faith journey. This video is played during the ceremony, and students come forward to be recognized. Additionally, baptism is offered on this day for those students ready to make a commitment to Jesus.

Questions for Video Reflection:

  • What is your name?

  • What are some of your hobbies or interests?

  • What is your favorite Bible verse and why?

  • Who are some important people in your spiritual journey (family, friends, teachers, etc.)?

  • What is one significant thing you have learned about Jesus/God/the Bible this past year?

  • What is one thing you wonder about when it comes to God, Jesus, and Faith?

  • Here is a brief highlight of our 2023 Video to get a better understanding of what it looks like

More Details

To ensure the integrity of this celebration, students must meet a set of minimum requirements. While we would love for every student to attend every session, we understand that this is nearly impossible. Here are the guidelines to follow:

Foundation Classes
Students are required to attend all classes unless otherwise arranged with Jeff at least a week in advance.

I’ve missed a couple of retreats, now what?
All hope is not lost! There are ways to make up for missed sessions:

  • If you missed more than two retreats, you will meet with Jeff or Jacob to go over the missed content.

Thank you for taking the time to read through this and discuss it with your child. If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
