Mission Catalyst Fund
We are pleased that you have chosen to apply for missional seed money funds from Bellingham Covenant Church. We look forward to learning more about your project! Before filling out your application, take some time to review the vision and values behind our use of these funds, and prayerfully determine whether they are in alignment with your vision.
Our goal is to inspire and invest in Christ-centered missional initiatives at Bellingham Covenant Church that further God’s transformative work in our community and world.
Key Values
We want to encourage and invest in missional initiatives that reflect the following values:
-
The initiatives we invest in will reflect the values seen in the gospel. They will be aligned with the mission of Jesus Christ, who was sent to proclaim good news to the poor, freedom for the prisoners, recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free and to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor (Luke 4:18). Jesus’ victory over sin and death encompasses all of reality, and the projects we invest in may likewise be diverse and wide-ranging in their focus.
-
We believe in the priesthood of all believers–that all members of the church (not just formal leaders) are called, equipped and empowered by the Holy Spirit for ministry. We value “ground-up” ideas that emerge from the real needs of the community and are spearheaded by members of the congregation.
-
We desire to see initiatives that lead to holistic transformation of those involved.Description text goes here
-
We encourage initiatives that can be accomplished in sustainable ways and have potential for long term impact.
-
We want to invest in ministry that will bring our members into relationship and proximity with those outside the walls of our church.
-
Have you observed and listened well to the community in which you want your ministry to take place? Will your initiative respond to the actual needs and longings of our neighbors?
-
We walk alongside neighbors in need, learning and growing as we do so. We cycles of dependency and instead see ourselves as fellow broken creatures in need of God’s grace
Mission Catalyst Process
We believe that God is at work redeeming and blessing his creation and that we are called individually and corporately to join him in this work. We pray that this Mission Catalyst Process would be one step in this larger work that will continue until all things are made new.
-
We acknowledge that the Holy Spirit is at work among his people, forming their hearts and desires, bringing attention to the deep brokenness and needs of this world, and bestowing his people with gifts, talents, and resources to meet those needs in Jesus’ name. The leadership of BCC will strive to encourage and equip the church for missional thinking and living. We want the whole church to be actively listening for the ways God is moving in our midst and identifying potential avenues for missional engagement.
-
a. We invite individuals, groups or ministry teams at the church to fill out and submit an initial application in order to clarify the missional initiative and facilitate discernment.
b. The Mission Catalyst team and Lead Pastor commit to reviewing the applications in order to determine the next steps. These steps may include one or more in-person meetings with the applicant(s) to further clarify the initiative, answer any outstanding questions and pray for guidance.
c. The Catalyst Team and Lead Pastor will vet the initiatives presented through the framework of Key Values (above) and prayerfully discern which of them to advance to the Lead Team for final funding decisions.
-
Those initiatives that are funded will enter an implementation phase, to be carried out according to the timeline agreed to in the application materials.
-
We are convinced that God desires to help us grow (and help others to learn) through our experiences. During and following the implementation of each initiative, the organizers will be asked to engage in structured reflection and reporting, in order to maximize the potential for those involved to learn from and be edified by the experience. The church will find ways to celebrate the work that God has done through these initiatives.
