Prayer often seems like something done by others. We hear pastors praying in church, our parents praying at meals, and our community reciting the Lord's Prayer together. These are all important moments for prayer. But what if God wants to connect with you during prayer?
This spiritual exercise allows you to pray directly to God, just between the two of you. Remember, God wants to spend time with you, this is one way to do that.
Process
Take a moment to write down the letter of the word PRAY on the side of a piece of paper and then work through each letter as you pray.
P
Praise (and give thanks)
Write down as many words as possible that declare or describe who God is to you. This is your time to acknowledge and thank God for who he is and what he has done in your life.
R
Repent
To repent is to ask for forgiveness. As people, we are often highly aware of the ways we fall short in our relationships with others and for the things we’ve done wrong. Take time to bring these things before God and ask God to forgive you for them, knowing that, “As far as the east if from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:12)
A
Ask
Ask God for what you need. You can also ask God to meet other people's needs too.
Y
Yield
Pause. Listen. Stop writing or talking. Give God time to share with you.
